Jungle Dreams

Am headed for Corbett National Park this weekend. All of us at the office are looking forward to this trip even though we will need to review our quarter's work there. This month has been extra taxing for us with dozens of things happening together in a frenzy, so even a meeting out of the same premises is a welcome change. Not to mention to get away from the city. Although I am a city bred person but after a while I need to stretch myself in either the pristine or the wild surroundings of mountain or jungle. The noise, the traffic, the people, in fact the modern day civilization gets to me. Often when I get back not only do I feel recharged but am ready to attack the surreal life of the metro.

Last time I went to Corbett in 2004 it was high summer and the forest was dry. But this time post monsoons it expected to be lush and a riot of colours. Kumeria by the banks of river Kosi is the village where we are headed, not much is available on it except for the fact that it is 30 kms from the nearest railhead Ramnagar.

Apart from missing my other half for four days I will also miss music so it seems as I cannot locate any of my old beaten walkman or discman. So loads of shopping to do. Need to pick up some kind of music device as well as a pair of floaters for the river bed walking. And the essential tube of sun screen.

Will definitely post about our escapades once I am back...till then stay cool!

Beware the meneating Mosquitos of Corbett park, even the great hunter could not kill them. Pack an odomos spray. Shell out a little and buy an MP3 player. Will last you for years and years and years. Don't laugh too loud, you will scare the tigers away. And absolutely no PJs, its bad for the wildlife!!

Yeah thanks for the ODOMOS reminder. That was on top of my list but some how slipped out. Yes MP3 player will be useful. No laughing strictly staying quiet neither disturbing the birds and definitely not disturbing the BIG CATS! Would really not like them to feel disturbed! Am also carrying my little skewed but highly functional pair of binoculars. Whatever little is available on Kumeria on the net it is well known for our feather friends. So will stay put in my chair and watch the wild life fly by!

Perhaps it is for the better that you don't have your walkman with you. You'll listen to other sounds more carefully. :)

and since meeaaaoowww cared to give some advice, I'll follow her suit. Its important that you leave the park as pristine as you found it. And don't feed the animals. You don't want the animals getting used to humans, coz then they'll be easy game for poachers..

This I'm saying because the last time we went through Nagarhole national park, I had a hard time convincing the people I was travelling with not to offer biscuits to the gibbon to try and get it closer for a better shot.

Very true...city bred people have a tendency of turning everything into the urban madness they are used to. This reminds the encounter with one of the resort owners while selecting the venue. The gentle was proud to tell us that his property at Corbett comes with a dance floor! Now if we wanted a dance floor why would we go to Corbett National Park beats me!
