The Joy Ride

In the fast paced global lives that we aspire to live these days, we totally forget to savour each moment of our life's journey. So whenever I have the opportunity I add a train journey to my travel schedule. Not only do I control my carbon footprints but am also rewarded with my own time and solitude.

I sit back and let the world pass me by in a haze, on the train as well as outside the train. Collages of green Indian country side pass me by busy in its daily chores, tending the fields, waiting at the railway crossings to get on with their onward journey, children walking together towards school, scare crows standing alone in bright sunshine.

Platforms too change character with every passing hour of the day and night. In the morning usually they are bustling with activity where people are ususally heading to and fro to destination of work, some lovers find a shade of a tree in not so busy stations and make most of the indifference of the people around. In the evenings the platforms grow brighter and curious with people , friends and family being embraced as they part ways yet again or meet after a long spate of absence.

Trains are a great way to even get in touch with your own self in this crazy paced world. If you are fortunate and have a great seat you can just curl up with your favourite music and go into this meditative place, in case you have an interesting read it’s just adds to the special journey. With friends it becomes a memorable journey no matter how late it is running or how bad the food is; with friends on a journey one makes so many memories for the soul. So people a train journey once in a while is good for mental balance and in the process you can save the earth too from climate change. Please do include a train journey in the coming months and I promise you won’t regret it!
