Virtual Decompression

My love for my digital devices is legendary. So much so that I think many a times quite like Joaquin Phoenix in "Her" I feel I am having a serious relationship with my laptop. Alan Turing you must be enjoying yourself to see us now. People watch Imitation Games. Mr. Turing your machine has got the better of us after all and how! Although it still remains an enigma. Like the stone age this tool makes our lives go around now! How I wish people knew better and you did not have to give your life.
Martin Cooper you changed our lives with the tiny hand held device called the "mobile" forever. The world is not the same anymore. Thanks to you I can work away from my home in peace as I know my family and friends are a phone call away just not the emergency numbers. The fast paced life and silos of existence makes us live a little in this virtual space. Yes, I am guilty of being attached to my digital devices, so much so that I am made fun of by my friends and foes alike! Lol! But I look at it as my contribution to world peace. Yes, friends and foes have a common ground. Yaay! How nice. My addiction is their point of unification! In this fractured world any little bit for bringing together people should be lauded! Take a bow you electronic junkie ;) But honestly when did it all change? When did we become slaves to our digital Gods? With the Enigma code breaker indeed. But most of it arises from the nature of our jobs these days I suppose, glued more or less to our emails, the Kaali berry or Blackberry started it and soon Apple made us its slave with iPods, iPads and the quintessential iPhone version X to the power N. They evolve versions quicker than you and I just learn to use our smart phones. Most of the features are useless and a complete waste of time you have to pay for everything. Windows phone still remains a mystery for me. But thank heavens for great inventors we have the world wide web given to us for free by Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau. Yes Steve Jobs you can be God to many but sorry I don't buy your philosophy. You stay young and I won't be foolish!
Funnily people who profess to hate their digital devices are always seen using them. Line, Viber, Whatsapp won't be required if we did not use them. So why keep blaming poor Facebook or Skype? It's a way of life now. Why write how much you hate Facebook on Facebook? Don't you realize it makes you look stupid and not Facebook. If you don't want to be on Facebook just don't use it! Most of us are pressed for time and are multi-tasking to no end so we add a space for ourselves in the digital vacuum. That space is primarily a non judgemental space. You can share if you want but if you want to keep it private you can do so. So be private if you don't want comments. Here you can do as you chose, after all your laptop or your phone doesn't care how you look or wear or what is your IQ? It simply has no expectations. That is why it is our huge favourite. Long live virtual decompression!

hmmm....you got me thinking!! Increasingly, I struggle to comprehend what "reality" is. Why is it that we run after this and that until one fine day we all bite the dust? Isn't "real life" the way we know it a"virtual world" in its own realm??

Well, was reading a very interesting article today in Times of India today about how literature is fighting with itself as fictional characters are checking their texts and Watsapp alerts and spoiling the plot. The debate says in the future we just might have sci-fi literature as that will be the life we will know, but good for us that we still have the option of logging out. Actually, continuous onslaught of technology has been rewarding but has also made us very lonely I suppose.
