Another one bites the dust.

Indian hopes at the American Idol dies with the exit of Sanjaya Malakar, better known as the guy with a weird hairdo or the guy with a soft voice. Whatever may be the case but Sanjaya had oodles of the quintessential "it"factor, which makes him noticeable. You may or may not like him but you can never ignore him. He has a long way to go.

The expatriate Indians definitely love him, so does a sizable chunk of the population and the world was waiting to see how far this kid could go where another 17 year old wonder kid Jordan sang her heart out week after week. Even though I am an irregular viewer but I keep track of things to see who is making progress.

Sanjaya has been walking the thin line for sometime now and his personality and every one's blessings kept him alive so far but this week he had pushed the lady luck bit too hard with his weak rendition of Bonny Rait's Grammy winning track. After Phil's and Jordan's outstanding performances he came out just little less than ordinary and insipid, even his charm was not enough to save him. The only glimmer of hope came when of all the people Lakisha lost her cool and rushed through her number and then everyone started thinking may be he will survive again. But that was not to be.

I recall Ellen Degeneres introducing Jennifer Hudson in the 79th Academy awards as somebody for whom America did not vote and she was sent off from the show but look where she is a year later, with an Oscar in her kitty for her debut film says a lot about the kind of raw talent that we get to see in these musical TV sitcoms, which the intellectuals deplore but I find them a good way to unwind after a long day at work and running chores around the house.

My very best to Sanjaya and others who sure will find a way to their dreams some way or the other 'cos you can have only one IDOL after all. Just stay positive guys!

While fooling around and looking for folk songs on Youtube, my wife stumbled upon this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAeYt-swWG0
She is apparently a find on a Hungarian music talent show called Megastar. Worth checking out.
Unfortunately I don't have TV, so I haven't watched any episode of American Idol. I did find Sanjaya on YouTube, and he was OK. Rather on the "sickly sweet" side for me. But that's just me. Michael Bolton (not of the ex UN variety) crooning out "can i touch you there" makes me want to puke.

Are you saying that idol was saved from a debojit-incident? I thought that guy sucked in sa re ga ma and he went on to win! whew..may be its for the better...may sanjay get better at singing before we meet him again!

Magdi is good, really good. Shubho you mention of not having a TV and I on the other hand have to catch up as I don't have the internet, for that matter not even a desktop at home, have miles to catch up on being tech savvy. So when ever am bored at work just scribble thanks to you Srobs, who got me going.

I am not very well informed about the Debjeet fiasco as I did not follow the program. But I must confess that I thoroughly enjoy the drama on Idols both Indian as well as American. Very guilty of nurturing this trait of enjoying anything dramatic. Very Indian and Bangalee I suppose!I am still wondering will Jordan win or not? I for one would love to see her win. And guys thanks again for writing in.
