Home sickness

What is home sickness? Well, it is the exact opposite of my favourite song "Homeward Bound"!

What is home? What makes it so special? Is it the comfort of physical familiar space? Or is it the people who make you feel special in the confines of the designated space?

I believe it is the latter. It is when your heart feels a warm tug and enjoys beating and makes you go all fuzzy with warmth. The old saying, "Home is where your heart is", rings always very true to me.

The last day of one week break was not so bad earlier! Probably as this time I had so much of emotions packed into  this one week it is more obvious.

With a family wedding, meeting and catching up with friends, reliving the childhood days, meeting dear Aunt and cousin, tying up loose ends and spending time with Dad. Cooking for Dad. That is indeed a good break.

Sense of belonging is a subject I have often debated about in my mind. I have been living various places all my life, have written many a blogs on my vagabond life.

Geographically I have lived in Baroda, Delhi, Kolkata, Dhaka, Delhi, Kolkata, Delhi and this goes on... a never ending cycle. Probably I was excited by the prospect myself only twice when I first moved to Dhaka and then subsequently came back to Delhi. Barring those moves rest have been rational choices dictated by life. I had very little to do with the selection. But it has always been with the choice of people whom I love and they make me feel welcome straight into their hearts and home alike.

The in-numerous times I have packed my worldly belongings and set up home has been quite regular and frequent. I did not mind initially and always thought it is a positive thing. But as I grow in my years I realize more and more where my home lies. No wonder "Homeward bound" is a song which whispers to me so often. And through it all my heart is and always will remain with Kolkata.

Fabulous post....
And I do agree....the comfort zone for "homeward bound" can never be much farther than Kolkata.

Thank you so much Monideepa for reading and leaving a comment. I often get the question where is your hometown? My answer is always Kolkata, now I know why! Lol!
