Flower Show
Button Marigolds makes my heart sing. I know all of you will think 'How pedestrian!' But unfortunately it is one of my favourite flowers and I just love it for the bright colours. It also indicates Saraswati Puja is not far away. It was the most important celebration for us as children. It all depended on Goddess Saraswati's blessings how bright our futures will be, more importantly will we pass the next exams or not. So marigold as a flower holds huge significant for children of Bengal. Am enjoying resyncing with the seasons in Kolkata now. Next will be Bougenvillia season in four weeks time. To be followed by Palash or the flame of the forest indicating "Dol" or the spring festival.
The onset of winter sets rolling all kinds of exhibition, including the first round of flower show eventually culminating into the display of rose gardens at the Mughal Gardens in February. Like many tradition this must be one of the many colonical hangovers which I really enjoy. So when we found out 5th Annual Flower Show to be on at Bolpur we made a beeline towards it. Sadly yet again I was without my camera and these shots are from my phone camera which hardly qualifies as one. But it was fun to watch so many chrysenthimums, daliahs, cosmos', bonsais of different kinds strutting oranges and pretty flowers.
In the Cosmos blossom section this was the winner. I am so looking forward to the annual flower show at Horticultural Society, Shibpur now.

More over I always loved to know bengali people and their culture as I'm a big fan of them.
Looking forward to learn still somemore things about bengal or bengalis.
This particular post inspired me to write about flowers in my blog. You might be interested to have a look. :)
And really thanks a lot for going through my previous post.
love dandelions.
love lilies for the smell - Guess some colonial sentiments linger on
and how can I forget the orchids.. especially since almost each orchid is engineered so precisely to be pollinated by one single species
