Something for the soul
The light says it all...
It has been almost a month since I wrote, but people I have been letting vent to my suppressed desires you see so was preoccupied. Well don't you wish it would be one of those "kiss and tell" chick-lit flick? Well may be some other time. For now it is giving vent to our repressed home improvement thoughts. Our previous landlord did not allow us to put as much as a nail on the wall, not to mention the fact that he did not even apply a fresh coat of paint when we moved in and the ordeal really put us under severe depression. When we shifted couple of months back to this new place where we found a very congenial landlord who did not mind how we lived with in the premises as long as we were not breaking down his place. And he did paint the house freshly before we moved in. So this was indeed a welcome change for us and we planned to do up our two main living areas on ground floor with bare minimum changes for our anniversary. And it was done in a week flat, the research and decisions took three! Here are the results for you my discerning friends...let us know how do you like it. Before all ye home owners shriek at the wall deco thinking about the nails well we have just added one in the corner for a long painting. Rest were all their. The back light here has taken away some of the details so please view picture in another window for details. Bad photography on yours truly's part. Please excuse.
A cheek was added to the window along side the Binod Behari Mukhopadhayay painting (yes like every other Bangali I am partial to Bengal school, you could also blame it on my Dad and my inlaws both). The old faithful divan received a fresh coat of polish with new Kalamkari cover with matching bolsters.
The rangoli table top, handy work of Mr. Handyman ;o)
We just wanted to lend some character to the rooms. The light curtains in the French windows in the living area. The light is just beautiful in this house, so we are making the most of it.
The bookshelf, bar and crockery shelf. Aaditto's painting the main focus here.
The den where we while away our hours happily. Rik checking out the bookself and AVP 2 as well :)
The basic rules that came in handy
The mood and purpose of the room; the defining lighting; the minor changes can extend the life of old furniture; the additional furniture should compliment the existing furniture, last but not the least it should match your spirit as you are the one who is going to spend time in the space created by you. In case I missed anything please feel free to add.
