wohoo... the laburnum in bloom!!! reminds me of JNU :) (on the aside... the bengali equivalent of laburnum robs the tree of all it's romantic splendour ... ;P)
Yeah I do remember the childhood summers before the global warming in Delhi. It used to be hot and dusty but we could survive it as the humidity was low and temperatures were high and desert and room coolers were just fine to make you feel cool. We enjoyed our mangoes, lassi and lemonade and felt happy, never felt the urge to switch on the ac, and not many homes had acs those days. But the scenario changed drastically when I got back to Delhi in 2000 after 18 years. The weather was suffocating to say the least during the summer months, and all of us would try and spend most evenings in movie theatres to beat the heat and then we puchased acs or hire as I do to just have a good night sleep so that I can deliver at work and don't suffer from sleepless nights.
But thankfully this summer old Delhi summer is back, it is dry the temperature hovering around 40, we are getting frequent sust storms and it is making May almost bearable. Last night it rained and the temperature dropped 5 degrees. And yes I too am enjying the summer after a long long time.
