Ingenius bangali

This signage right outside Anashakti Ashram was just hilarious testament to the bangali spirit of travel. You will find us everywhere on the mountains, on the sea beaches and most definitely in places of historical interest. And the average Bangali would definitely like his staple share of maachh- bhaat and dal no matter what. It's even better if one gets a view of the majestic mountains right from the hotel room! In that case he can just be happy and content lazing in his pjs and drink in the view. Nothing could make him happier. So the enterprising Bangali has just what they are looking for. Across India no matter where you go you will find some entrprising Bangali to have set up such establishments to cater to the Bangali palate and lethargy. We have spotted them in Kanya kumari, Khirsu and everywhere else, but this one just takes the cake!

I remember when I was studying in Chennai. The food was well restrictive to say the least. So imagine when we heart this bengali restaurent called suruchi has popped up nearby. It was a mass exodus every afternoon during lunch break..for meals...and they even talk Aamer tak at the end..heh heh

After a gruelling travel to kalpa (HP), I was sooooo relieved to hear that I'd get dal and aloo bhaja in a wayside shack, claiming to be a bangali hotel! Though when i went to chat with the guy in bangla i drew blank stares ... but i must say the food was really nice. Don't know whether it was just the simple meal after a hard day doing the trick!

Best was however when my mother forced us to have daal bhaat at a way side place in Kanyakumari, dad and myself enjoyed it immensely and she being a finicky cook was busy being critical about the recipe. As a result she did not enjoy the meal but we did. hence the moral of the story is its better to enjoy the food rather than try and find out the reason behind it. In Benaras too we were saved by locating a Bengali restaurant after the initial disappointments with the suggested cafes in Lonely Planet, so three cheers to Bangali entrepreneurial spirit!

Dear Pragya,
Am enthralled by the effort you have put into your blog - so much of (eminently) readable stuff and interesting pix. Mine pales in comparison.. really. Frankly, am not much into blogging, even been wracking my brains on what to post for the last one month. Yours is inspiring. Now I GOTTA dedicate more time. Thanks for the cobranding here ;)
Keep Bull-ing, I will.
