Reconnecting after the break with Meditation
Good Morning!
It has been a long break, but it has been with reason. Not only the country and the world has gone through a whole lot these last 8 months but so have I on a personal level.
Not only did I shift house yet again but I also lost a pillar of my life, my Mother last September. Although we were prepared in our hearts for this inevitability but when it happens it takes time to first accept, then to grieve, then to adapt. That is exactly what I have been doing all these past few months. Finally after trying for the last two weeks today picked up the courage to actually write this. Putting it in words has been the greatest challenge. I miss her all the time and will continue to do so forever I know but admitting it in writing has been the toughest. I have tried to do several things to get here like reading, attending weddings, socializing, doing the daily chores, even keeping myself busy with work, but nothing helped. The fear of letting go was overwhelming.
Finally, what helped me to get here was the healing of meditation. I never thought I had the ability to meditate but have successfully broken that barrier. The mind is our greatest source of energy and power and to harness it should be our life goal. It allows us to be brave in facing challenges, it helps us attain the unattainable and above all it helps us to 'heal'. Healing is a process which we all need from time to time in our daily lives today and meditation is a sure shot way to get there. If you have a healthy mind you are bound to have a healthy body. And we all swear by 'health is wealth' diktat anyways in the modern world. Hence mental health is the key to success. So here it goes friends, a few quick steps to connect with the self:
Step 1 - Close your eyes. Inhale and exhale deeply 3 to 5 times.
Step 2 - Imagine yourself on a mountain top or a beach. All alone.
Step 3 - Enjoy the panoramic view and feel the wide expanse of the world around you. That is the great cosmos.
Step 4 - Say to yourself how blessed you are for being part of this great cosmos and how happy you are.
Step 5 - Feel the celestial blessings be showered on you and imagine golden light encompassing the entire universe shine through you. (If you are an atheist this should work for you). For believers it is simpler, feel God's blessings being showered on you and embrace the happiness.
Step 6 - Stay in this blissful state as long as you wish.
Step 7 - Thank your own God / Cosmos for the blessings in your life and slowly with draw yourself from the state and take deep breaths as we did in the beginning and open your eyes.
The beauty of this form of meditation is that you can do it in any posture. The most effective one being when you wake up and just before falling asleep. So you can jolly well do it lying on your back in bed, no hassle. But the peace and calm that you achieve from this simple exercise of the mind is way way better than playing Sudoku!
Do try and send me your feedback :)
