Getting Started

Been wanting to complete my post graduate studies for some time now. But every attempt has been a non-starter so far! Quite disappointing actually. The reasons has been mainly two. One being the fact that we keep on moving from one place to another and it is quite a pain changing loads of addresses over and over again and especially as I will have to opt for a distance learning program it has proved to be quite a deterrent. But this time I have made up mind that no matter how difficult the task is I must make a sincere attempt at it. Secondly, the challenge has been to finding a suitable course. You see I need something challenging yet meaningful as a post graduate study option. So far the courses offered in India through distance learning has been at the best pedestrian, however things started looking up once IGNOU came into being. But then even they needed time to catch up with me. The problem being born in the wrong time you see. No wonder I loved "Back to the Future 1, 2 and 3" so much!

Fortunately , today I found the perfect fit after so many years of waiting, almost 15 years since I last enrolled in Masters' program! The good news is that education in India is slowly catching up with me! Delighted. So here I go this year investing in my education. Wish me luck guys.

Is a PG really worth it? frankly speaking, post graduate courses (or for that matter graduate courses) in India are antiquated and suck big time. More so with distance learning courses. You'll be much better off with OCW (Berkley, MIT and Harvard have some awesome courses with awesome teachers).
Unless of course, a certificate helps you in your day-to-day job, or you get an ego boost out of having a degree.

Do visit udacity.com .. they have online classes, tests everything for free.. teachers are mostly sourced from MIT. Subjects may not be yet of interest, but they are adding...

Other than that I'd recommend iTunesU.. I took a lot of courses from itunesU... the same stuff is also available on the OCW pages of major univs.

Thanks Rajbir for the information. I shall definitely look it up. I plan to do Masters in Participatory Development. That is where I see the actual potential of development in the years to come and IGNOU is offering the same in association with PRIA.
