Raja's Soda Shikanji

Well, I have been lying low in the hot summers and now that the much awaited monsoons are here, I am up and about. So happy to get my bearings back! And in my first sojourn out in the city of joy I was introduced to Raja, the keen kid makes Soda Shikanji (lemonade laced with Soda) out side Victoria memorial.
He is all of 12 but already an entrepreneur in the making. On a Sunday as we took a leisurely walk around the promenade he beckoned us to his stall with his earnest request and how could we refuse. Promptly he went after making the first two shikanjis in the dying evening sun. I just love the pretty earthenware glasses that are used widely in Kolkata.
Slicing the lemon and adding the juice was all up his alley but when you needed to add the soda with a panache he had to take help from his elder brother who runs another stall next to the lemonade kiosk and voila my Soda Shikanji was ready for a sip and more!
I wish Raja all the luck and hope his business flourishes well in coming years and he gets rewarded for his hard work and earnestness.

Wishing Raja and everyone else a happy weekend.

Mmm -- sounds like a very refreshing drink! Is it sweetened? I might be inspired to make this at home.

Sorry Tabitha for getting back to you so late, as I am continuously traveling in my new capacity I get very little time to get on the net. It can be sweetened or salted as per your taste. By the way did you get a chance to try it yet?
