Rainy day special
It is said our personalities can be defined by the way we handle a rainy day. My heart sings and I am filled with excitement on such a day. Quite like the Indian national bird I must say!
It's raining outside and the temperatures have dropped to a great extent. The weather man was after all right, the monsoons did drift in to New Delhi on the 15th July. For once we did get the afternoon tea on time as well. And I feel so happy. The monsoon showers after the scorching June sun always brings joy to our hearts and you start living again, you crave for various hot crispy vegetable pakoras/ fritters.
The Bengalis invariably end up having 'khichuri' when it rains. But the best thing about the rain for me is the fragrance of the earth that engulfs the Indian plains. That is a fragrance yet to be discovered by the perfume giants. It is an association with our immediate environment and mind which lifts our spirits, enchants our lives and makes everything look beautiful. So I thought why not find out what everyone else enjoys about the rains. Here are my top favourites of a rainy day:

- Lush green trees, bathed in rain
- Singing, no matter how out - of - key I am
- Sharing the goodies such as hot vege fritters & coffee with my friends and family

The smell of the earth when it starts raining is hard to describe in a few words...Nothin can beat the rain :)
The rain - of course - wets one's underwear now and then - making one feel rather piss-sy often necessitating frequent trips to the toilet (the office AC aids that)
But when was office ever meant for doing work. It is a place designed for people to optimally search (in O(1) time) their databases of excuses not to work.
The fact however is that, how so ever critical the media may be towards municipal authorities,I actually missed the experience today as I was out of city.
What do I like to do when it rains?
If its just a drizzle, drive down on highway with a good company..no guesses...generally alone with my favourite country music.
If its really pouring,go up on terrace and enjoy the ultimate shower, without feeling guilty of wasting precious resource..water!
If its hailstorm, encourage my little son to help me collect those little icelets.
When its raining cats n dogs, sit under the shelter watching it,n trying my hands on my guitar, how so ever 'out-of-string' it might be with two naturally sung numbers, rim jhim gire saawan and wo kagaz ki kashti wo baarish ka paani...
When it slows down, and the street outside has turned into a river, its time to teach my son how to make the boat and watch him set them to sail for the voyage...only to sink like titanic, only the cause here is not the iceberg, but the garbage and obstacles floating along..
And when Im drenched and feeling cold, and its a weekday, its time to ask her to help me with a softdrink. She would get me a coke or juice, and I'll quietly add some bacardi to it.
But on a weekend,no hide n seek,I can proudly announce an old monk too and say...Cheers!!!!
