Romantic get away for two...Lansdowne, Part -1
Well we were two tired souls desperate to get out of Delhi and its incessant humidity. So we had two days plus one one the weekend and thought of going somewhere nearby. Fortunately for us we did manage to get seats on the over night train and almost missed it by a whisker as the cabbie failed us. First time The Easy cab service to do that. We reached Old Delhi station just at the nick of time due to some tremendous driving skills of our local cabbie who charged us a bomb for it, but never you mind, all's well when you board the Mussourie Express and head 200 kms to Kotdwar. We had done it! We were off to our weekend get away eventually! At the crack of dawn, (well almost) we reached Kotdwar right at 6 am and got hold of a maxi cab to Landsdowne, which is just 40 kms away. And you thought Kumaon was green! Well take a look here and tell me.
Fisrt glimpse of Lansdowne. The mist and clouds make it look picture perfect, makes it charming and so mysterious. And you think can a romance be far behind? Oh such a perfect setting for a Barbara Cartland. For once I too can be a sucker for it. But looking at that road it ignites the question will the lovers make it? Or destiny will have different plans? Apparently this bit of the road was lost to the landslide this rain and has just been resurrected so we are one lucky couple who made it to see the day!!!

Wherever you look the pines, oaks, firns welcome you...implore you to make the most of it a la Bollywood ishtyle ;-) How can you not give in.
The gurgling water falls on both side of the road take your breath away...
And once the clouds move away you see clear blue skies bejewelled with white fluffy clouds and the dancing pines whispers mysterious magical words in your ears.

You feel as pleased as a penny like me. That by the way is me in the picture in front of my favourite tree in entire Lansdowne. And the 'impressionable water tanks' (my hubby named them so) were testimony to my romance.
Lansdowne main square on a busy afternoon.
The most sought after man on a busy Saturday afternoon doing brisk business...Mr. Cobbler. As the ladies here have a fetish for wearing high heels and were extremely amused by my pair of floaters!! Well ladies if we wore the foot wear guided by Lansdowne fashion then all of us would require knee surgery. Thanks you but no thank you I rather fancy my un-chich floaters in return of my original knee caps! The best joints to check out here will be the tea stall a la Barista Lansdowne style, people meet and catch up but no lovers here mind you for that you would need to peek into the parks and shelters.
The next big thing is the local bakery, the aroma of vanilla will drive you nuts even if you are on the most staunch diet ever, you will be allured to the hot cross buns or the lemon pastry as my hubby liked. (Kotnala Bakers, Lansdowne, phone : 262247, estd. 1963)Expect rain anytime...we were lucky we were all ready at GMVN rest house and watched the pouring rain. It came in sheets.

The beautiful GMVN cottage huts also available at the highest point of Lansdowne Tip and Top but these are better for privacy value. As the other get a lot of traffic noise by virtue of being set on the peak.
Well for the rest of the romance you will need to follow the story I guess.
