House hunting blues!

Well, the regular scene around the end of the month in any Delhi colony is trucks loaded with house hold stuff zooming in and out of the gates. As I too am part of the gypsy crowd every two - three years have to go through the rigmarole. It is very depressing, exhausting and unsettling to say the least. But what choice do we not- so- well - paid, non- business - class salaried people do have? None practically. And more importantly we seem to be a very small insignificant number about whom nobody is interested. The land lord's have the last say in dictating terms & condition; the property dealer will keep on hiking his fee; the movers and packers too. Not to mention the burgeoning property rates, which defies every logic in the book today. Yesterday my landlord with pride told me that a two bed room flat in our average neighbourhood is worth 1 crore 40 lakhs. I have not yet met any person who has bought a two bed room ordinary flat at such inflated rates and mind you I have many well healed and well settled friends around the same place. As my wise friend keeps telling me "I would like to meet these fools who buy DDA flats for Rs 1 crore, sadly you can't find anyone we only get to hear stories, they are nothing but fiction in reality as well, people feel good showing off". I do believe him. Mind you these flats were originally sold at Rs. 3 to 5 Lakhs some 20 odd years ago. By no figment of imagination can they reach Rs. 1 crore plus! But that's the story you will get from property dealers and landlords too! Wishful thinking!

This mindless exaggeration leaves you wonder where we are headed. But for the time being I have to concentrate on finding a new home. And I am sure nobody is listening.

yes illusions... some people are listening but i guess they are not the right ones... being a part of the "refugee crowd" in delhi, i too have had my share of house-hunting blues. So much so that eventually i landed up in a place where, even in my wildest dreams, i had never imagined to be!
you'll be in my prayers...
