Sad Sunday!
The morning papers only brought gloom to my erstwhile post. Did not anticipate this at all. I am saddened to find a nation quietly watches on while the law enforcement authorities slap a mindless charge of creating factions on religious lines on Tasleema Nasreen while the perpetrators of the crime go about town not only scot free in fact tom- tomming their act of cowardice!
Just a month back the Congress Party had upheld the cause of women and infact nominated the first woman President of India Pratibha Patil. In fact India almost had a woman Vice- President as well but then to maintain the fine balance of representation of all minorities nominated Mr. Ansari for the coveted seat. So now it looks all picture perfect to the world. India has a Sikh Prime Minister, a woman President and a muslim Vice-President.
The ground reality is far from rosy. Women (largest chunk of the minority) will always be treated as second class citizens in this nation, no matter how many women Presidents and Prime Minister we have, visitors from near and far however noted they are will be mistreated based on their gender although our national byline by the Minsitry of Tourism cries out "Incredible India" and "Atithi Devabhya", not to forget the fact we call our nation our Motherland or Bharat Mata. No matter how offensive the crime is ultimately all boils down to assured vote bank gains. With the genral election not too far away in the vicinity the ruling Congress and Left collision just does not have the courage to be just, upright. As always justice for women in this nation will always be denied no matter what.
