The plains are on fire!
...and so is temper. It is 44 degrees and climbing in Delhi. The sun is scorching the very souls of all Dillivalas. Tempers are flying left, right and center and no respite is foreseen in the near future. No matter how many baths do you take nothing makes you feel content. The best way probably to deal with the heat would be to hibernate in the cool climes of temperature controlled room with your latest reading, but the working class is definitely less fortunate and has to endure the wrath and fury of the sun for yet another month and a half before the beautiful though flighty monsoons hit the town. Till then it is all up to the small pleasures of water melons and chhanch.
So how to deal with all the frustration and bad temper? Try looking straight at your PC and focus on whatever dull report you are working on, drink a gallon of cold water and any other cold beverage possible (avoid the fizzy drinks as it might play havoc on your flitting concentration levels), most important refrain from doing bodily harm to your neighbours. At times when you feel you are on the edge and you might do bodily harm practice Swami Ramdev's Pranayam techniques. I also find enhancing my dart throwing skills wherein the soft board board doubles up as the Bingo and my pens and pencils act as darts. Large helpings of yogurt with meals can be helpful.
The best therapy is to look forward to your plans which does not concern anyone but yourself, day dreaming, retail therapy, some music, surfing endlessly on the net or even just staring at the screen blankly (as a colleague pointed out when I was getting sucked into the home page of gmail for over ten minutes) and feel that you are consuming all around you. In the weekends just stay indoors in the mornings and head for the nearest cineplex and veg out on whatever is available, that is bound to give you a headache, thereafter take a painkiller and stiff drink and just float into a unconscious sleep. Three late evening Sangrias kept me reeling for two hours but beyond that it could not do much, but the earlier version was a knock out!
